As recently as February of this year, the FDA banned vitamin B6, or pyridoxamine, by “declaring it to be a drug.”

I don't think the ruling was final and it certainly is not in effect at this time. I can find pyridoxamine at many reputable vitamins sellers on the internet. As I understand it the ruling has been challenged and I doubt the FDA will get away with it. The best outcome could be similar to what happened when a pharmaceutical company came out with a high-priced fish oil supplement that was no better than the OTC versions. As could be predicted, hospitals prefer the overpriced pharmaceutical version to the reasonably priced OTC one. I guess it's a win-win situation: the pharma gets their high price through the hospital/physician channels while the consumer buys the OTC version off the shelf. As long as the FDA does not interfere, then both sides should be happy.
