Flying saucers, if they were real, would be remarkable devices. Seemingly in defiance of gravity, they reportedly have vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), almost instantaneous acceleration/deceleration, can hover, and do all of this without the proper "lifting body characteristics" required in airplane wings and helicopter blades.
