With tens of thousands of stocks trading every day, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed on your quest for the next high performing penny stock.

That’s why every week, the Penny Sleuth delivers our exclusive Monday Penny Stock Watchlist – a list of penny stocks that are exhibiting abnormal volume, strong technicals, upcoming news, or another catalyst that suggested they might be making a material move in the coming week.

Last week, every play we mentioned – two longs and two shorts – moved exactly as predicted, offering a cumulative 17.55% gain in only five trading sessions. And this week, with markets moving higher Monday, our Watchlist could do even better…

As usual, while our Watchlist errs on the safe side of small-caps, using technical analysis to tell us where a stock is headed, we opened the comments up to readers again last week, giving you the chance to offer up more speculative penny stock plays.

Check out the comments after this article on the Penny Sleuth website to get a glimpse at a slew of fresh user-submitter penny stock picks – and the chance to submit your own!

First, though, let’s take a look at this week’s penny stocks worth watching…

Daxor Corporation (AMEX: DXR) – This medical device company has had a rough run in 2009, currently down 8.4% year-to-date. But in the last few months, traders have been pushing shares of the company significantly higher on the back of strong fundamentals. That’s thanks in large part to big profits in recent quarters and a dividend yield that currently sits at 4.26%. Right now, DXR is forming an ascending triangle (see the chart above), a bullish pattern that suggests a breakout could be imminent. This week’s uptick in investor sentiment could be just the catalyst for that move.

The Savannah Bancorp (NASDAQ: SAVB) – While regional banks have been a mixed bag so far this year, Georgia-based Savannah Bancorp is one of the few that’s managed to deliver reasonably consistent profits to shareholders. This stock is technically appealing too… with the stock’s 50-day moving average on the verge of crossing over the 200-day, a significant signal is beginning to form for investors to pick up shares of the stock.

Cornerstone Therapeutics (NASDAQ: CRTX) – Cornerstone Therapeutics is a specialty pharmaceutical company that’s gotten shellacked in the second half of 2009. Still, technically it looks like this stock has further to fall this week with a re-test of the stock’s downtrend coming up (see chart above). Even in the best-case scenario, this stock could have a 10% upside for shorts. Watch things closely, though, this morning’s rally in stocks could work against any technicals that are forming right now.

Modavox (OTC: MDVX) – Audio and video equipment maker Modavox has had a rough six months that’s included serious quarterly losses, and a share price that’s declined nearly 35%. At present, the stock is in the midst of a sustained downtrend that’s showing no signs of reversing. Expect shares to fall further this week…

  8. Two stocks I’m watching… MBRK – Middlebrook Pharmaceuticals & VIVK – Vivakor

    MBRK –
They released a new drug in March ‘09, Moxatag, which is the 1st FDA approved once-daily anti-biotic on the market. It uses a delivery system called Pulsys that waits until it hits a certain PH level in the GI tract to release its doses. MBRK is made up of some of the same people that worked at Adams labs, and created the popular Mucinex cough suppresant and decongestant medicine. This cold season will be the 1st test of their new drug, and given the details they submitted in their Q3 report, it’s very likely that they will see MANY prescriptions of this new drug. It seems that doctors are on-board with the fact that this once-daily med will make it easier for patients to stick with it. This company is not highly rated, but I feel they’re in for a nice price explosion after the 1st of the year, much like a few years ago after they released their Keflex drug.
I’d like to see what this place says about them.

    VIVK –
These guys look ok. They’ve made a few changes to strengthen their market position, but none of it has been realized yet. They recently announced they’ll be giving a 1:1 stock dividend in another company for which they hold the majority interest, who hasn’t gone public yet. So far the stock has fallen a bit, but I think they were MAJORLY oversold after this announcement came out. Even if they do fall a bit more, I’m thinking the new stock, which since it’s a non-optional stock dividend, means no taxes levied for the gain, from what I understand, it may be worth holding on to until the record date of the dividend. I’d like a well-informed opinion on this one as well.

American Sierra Gold Corp. Discovers New Gold-Rich Zone at El Rosario, Urique Project
    Press Release
    Source: American Sierra Gold Corp.
On 8:45 am EST, Tuesday November 17, 2009
    Companies:American Sierra Gold Corp.
RENO, NV–(Marketwire – 11/17/09) – American Sierra Gold Corp. (OTC.BB:AMNP – News), an independent gold exploration company headquartered in Reno, Nevada, is pleased to announce the discovery of a new gold-rich zone within the El Rosario mine of the Company’s Urique Project, Mexico.

“We are very excited with the results of our work at El Rosario. The presence of multiple vein sets hosting high-grade silver-gold mineralization, as well as felsic intrusives related to widespread alteration and mineralization of the andesitic rocks, suggests that the El Rosario target area has the potential to expand further,” commented Mr. Wayne Gruden, American Sierra’s CEO.

“The new high-grade gold zone encountered may represent an ore shoot and this concept needs to be tested by drilling. We are, therefore, currently working on the preparation of an underground drilling program which we expect to initiate in the near-term and conclude in the first months of 2010,” added Mr. Gruden.
American Sierra Gold Corp. is a publicly traded independent gold exploration company headquartered in Reno, Nevada. 23. AMD… I aquired this stock a little more than three weeks ago, and its up over 50% to $7.04.

  24. Check out BCLE on the OTC. Currently trading at a low .006 and the stock has seen .20 already. Great company specializing in cleaning products for the US Navy. Also…check out BLAP on the OTC currently at .02. Blast Productions deals with ‘apps’, re: Twitter, Social websites, etc. XCEL is moving up and a great buy currently at .375 (bought at .31) + WWPW at $1.21 is a smart buy since this company is into WIND POWER GENERATION, the future of clean & cheap energy generation. URBF (Urban Farms) at $1.23 is another great buy with serious upside potential (Walmart is partnering with them). Do your own due diligence on these stocks. Low entry cost with huge upside potential on all of them.

  25. Commodities are on the rise China is gearing up ,Coal is in demand ; a mid cap Canadian producer

with 100M in bank is poised to go up WTN . Western Coal looks good to me ; due your own DD …..

  26. Any thoughts on MPPC.PK

  27. CERP Found it on oilgae.com and with plastics being used SO much in everyday life, the turnover to bioplastic is the OBVIOUS next smart green move. Petroleum plastics are being found more and more to contribute to health issues from the chemicals they give off into our foods. With global annual plastic consumption in excess of 180 million tons and forecasted to double in 2015 from the 2003 levels along with an annual demand growth of 5% this new line of bioplastics certainly has a niche to fill.
    http://www.plasticservice.com/tempia.htm
Fortunately, TheStreet recently gave it a sell recommendation because now it is at bargain basement prices trading at .105, when this 4 year old company normally traded between $.50 and $1.25. Odd about the sell recommendation though because TheStreet also notes CERP has outperformed against the industry of 31.9%, have very low debt to equity, and give it 4 out of 5 stars for having a growth score better than 70% of the stocks they rate. It appears the reason they are rated it a sell is this young company hasn’t come into profitability yet from the R&D stages, but with over 30 patents and NO BPA and NO DIOXINS found in their plastic AND their diluted loss per share going from negative .04 in the period ending 9/30/08 to .00 in the 3 months ending 9/30/09, it looks like they are coming into their own with and product lines in place and current clients include Georgia Pacific, Bunge, Dorel Juvenile, Pace, Innoware, Genpak and Solo Cup.

  28. nctw under a penny they sell all products to mexico beer soft drinks . its under a penny with potential

  29. hey, I’m just trying to break into the otc market. I’m trying to research everything, but I’m struggling. I have so many questions and I’m a little leery about some of the huge swings I’ve seen. For example ISCR…is this a viable company and a worthy investment, or is it just novices like myself pushing the volume and increasing share price? How can a beginner like myself learn the ins and outs of the otc
